In these Tanztheater & Repertory Workshops, students have the opportunity to dive deep into the unique language of Tanztheater, blending dance, theater, and emotional storytelling. Working on the repertory of Pina's iconic pieces such as Rite of Spring, Arien, and more, participants experience the richness of Bausch’s movement vocabulary, including her signature use of gesture, ritual, and repetition, as well as dance theater techniques and elements drawn from Pina Bausch’s works. Through repertoire, and creative tasks and exercises that mirror processes of the company, the classes offer insight into her artistic process and the world of Tanztheater. The workshops provide a comprehensive understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of the art form, combining movement, emotion, and theatricality- core to Bausch’s work. Additionally, vocal elements, theatricality, and improvisation challenge the voice and personality, encouraging full-body storytelling and the embodiment of emotion and character. Pina Bausch Repertory labs are an invitation from the Pina Bausch Foundation and long-standing members of Tanztheater Wuppertal to explore Bausch’s legacy in an intimate and enriching way. The workshop typically culminates in a review, informal sharing, or discussion, fostering individuality, collectiveness, and creative exploration.
